Don't Abuse Any Creatures (Sarah Ramos)

Don’t Abuse Any Creatures
My motto for every animal is “If God created them, they are and will continue to be on this earth for a reason why go against God’s will”. When you hear most people from California talk about animals, clearly the most popular is a dog or cat, you never hear about dolphins or seals because they aren’t your typical kind of animal, this is key because people chose not to talk about those animals on average. Citizens tend not to care about animal abuse, because it doesn’t deal with the human body, and most people could care less about animals and the abuse many of them live through on a daily basis. There are many laws protecting marine mammals but not enough to stop endangering most of the species. On one side many people think pets such as a (fish)  are hard to manage because you have to feed them and clean they filter every two weeks, or they have had a horrifying experience with an animal for example, a young girl feeding a sea otter, result getting chased around because the food was finished causing the young girl to hate that particular species, but not everyone is the same some people love animals such as a zookeeper who is always tending to the needs of sharks, sting rays, etc. If you took a look back at what used a fairly harmless environment for creatures living in the ocean, it was tranquil not too much activity there were no oil spills or pinning down every female shark to find where they nest, animals were allowed to roam free in “their” environment, now people are slaughter whales, capturing dolphins and placing them in a strange settings (zoo). In my experience no one wants to be hurt so why inflict pain on a creature that hasn’t done anything but made our universe a better place. My prime position on animal abuse is has to become a moral issue in order for these animals to stop suffering, warning the public is the first step to success.
When you’re watching the National Geographic channel and a segment comes on about whales, you may start to speculate questions such as (How many species do they have?) or (It might seem like a great career being a marine biologist!), but most people don’t get to see the real picture they get the happy version of whales but what they should be showing the world is the abuse they go through daily. Many whales are protected worldwide due to their low numbers in species, in recent statistics have shown the most endangered whale is the “Northern Right whale, approximately 350 living” (Guernsey). In some countries like Japan and used to be the U.S. people would kill whales for their oil because it produced “lamp oil as well as lubricants”. I don’t believe this is right killing an animal just to please your needs, it’s a disgrace because why kill when you yourself can be the next inventor and make lamp oil. Also I feel as though now that many whales are starting to become extinct superior people are taking more precautions, but why all of the sudden now you understand that it’s wrong what people are doing to those animals, and they want to look like the heroes saving the last of the whale population. You must be thinking I’m crazy if I were to tell you that Sperm Whales puke is almost like gold, in the industry of high end perfumes, but it’s very true. It’s very uncommon for any “commercial” perfumes to have natural ambergris, companies instead “use a synthetic substitute” (perfumeshrine). When I hear about the whales puke being used as an ingredient for scarce perfumes it makes me want to throw up what they throw up or poop out, you would think they would want natural ingredients from plants but no they chose a whales discharge, it may not have a scent after a company puts all the chemicals to produce a perfume, now that I know this information I have gained knowledge into the perfume industry. Furthermore whales shouldn’t be used and abused, it something that most people around the world do just to make a living and have ends meet but rather than viewing it as a good thing, picturing the poor whale crying or showing emotion by trying to escape anyway possible twisting itself, hurting itself by doing movements it’s never done before attempting to getaway before it’s too late, it breaks my heart knowing that is how people used to and still make a living by.
In addition to whales, dolphins are abused by being captured and killed or sent off to zoos. Well most people love to go to the zoo and watch dolphins perform an act but what you don’t see is that many aren’t fed “until it is time to perform their daily routines”(myecoaction). Now what type of people are we putting these poor animals locked up and unfed, as I start to see more and more articles on the abuse of dolphins I wonder if it was ever necessary to take a creature out of its natural habitat and put it in an unfamiliar place, knowing it will be miserable for the rest of its life.
Some people may go against what I believe in such as saying for many people outside of the United States, this is family tradition brought down by ancestors, this is their way of earning a living, because this is what they were taught to do at an early age, but it isn’t fair for an animal to suffer and becomes someone wealth. Others may say this shouldn’t even be an issue because we as a country have other things to attend to such as trying to find cures for cancer; however what happens when almost all specie’ starts to go extinct and we the people are the only ones left on earth, would we honestly be able to manage this earth by ourselves.
Some solutions that we as a community could start doing in order to helping whales and dolphins would be first by, teaching the younger generation not to hurt animals, adults would set a good example to every kid, getting in the classroom and showing videos of the type of cruelty these creatures go through just for people’s needs and hopefully raise awareness, secondly since it against the law to go and kill a whale or dolphin, people who sell their meat would  be sentenced for 5 years, in prison they would be shown other jobs and go through rehabilitation to try and get that person out of that killer mind state and when released they will be labeled as (Animal Killer), lastly I would try to raise money and save the lives of these animals, but I won’t be like PETA or any other organization, people would be informed through the news on  which marine animal would be saved and where they will be relocated for a calm environment.
In conclusion, I’ve learned a lot about myself foremost because before I wasn’t as informed as I am today, now I can’t stand to see all these horrible videos on the abuse whales and dolphins go through, it makes me stomach sick, almost in tears, it hurts me but how cannot affect others as well. I wish this society would change for the better being able to be animal friendly, wish everyone was more loving and understanding towards animals, but one thing is certain I want to start helping these animals and the first place to do so is in the classroom, making others aware of what is to become of the ocean animals if we don’t help them now.

Morality issue of animal cruelty (Aaron Weston)

Approximately 30,000 animals are killed a year due to malnutrition and the animals getting beaten with foreign objects.(1) Animals have been getting abused and mistreated for centuries. Many animals are harmed in many different ways every day. One way that a lot of animals get harmed is getting euthanized because they are too wild because of their owners using them as aggressive protectors or dog fighters. About 8 million dogs and cats go to the shelter every year. And half of them are euthanized because of lack of space or dogs that are deemed non-trainable or too violent to be in the public or too dangerous to be owned (2). It hurts my heart to realize that animals have no control over their lifestyle. They just understand the basic means of survival. Animal abuse is morally wrong because it doesn’t abide by the animal law of liberation which makes it against the law to not treat animals in consideration to how humans would like to be treated.
Like humans, animals are smart enough to do what they feel they need and have to do to in order to survive and live that regular day to day lifestyle. But some neglectful and money greedy owners force their dogs to think that living a fighting and aggressive lifestyle is okay and is the right thing to do, when it shouldn’t be like that because life as a house hold pet shouldn’t be lived through negativity. But sorry to say a lot of people in this world see that illegal field of dog fighting as lucrative. Approximately 20,000 dogs die from dog fighting (3). Many of the dogs aren’t even killed from the actual fight some of the owners feel that the dogs are not useful to them if they get harmed during the fight and is injured in an important limb. So the owners sometimes kill them or leave them to die.
Another large lucrative field that is actually legal in which a mass 50 million animals a year are killed, is the process of them getting their fur removed from their body. That amount is ridiculous. I feel terrible that all of these animals are dying just so that a rich person could look a little more stylish than someone who is in a lower social class than them. Many animals get their skin removed when they are alive so the humans doing the skin removal seem to be very cold hearted because I personally would not be able to do that to an animal at all.
Many beautiful animals die for the benefit of humans. Witnessing unnecessary killings of animals make me feel as if this moral issue needs to be changed. I have seen many examples of animal abuse on YouTube of people around the world abusing animals which allowed me the opportunity to look at this topic as bigger than just another United States problem. Animal abuse is a world-wide problem. People in other countries care less about animals than some of the people in the US. I watched a video of Chinese people throwing a raccoon against the ground and shattering its bones so it would be easier for them to skin it compared to it being fully functional and having the power to fight back (4). I also saw a video of some food market in Pakistan where they were they were beating a coyote and then after the coyote couldn’t stand they would tie and hang it up from a pole and de skin it so that they could sell the fur. I personally was disgusted at how beast like they seemed because we aren’t culturally use to witnessing that in America. Even though we have cruel animal abusers in this country I noticed through some of the videos I seen how animals in different country seem to carry no significance as they do in America.
I hate the fact that animals are being killed because I love animals. My family and I have had so many pets ever since I was born. I think it may have started when I was little because my dad may have wanted me to have a animal loving spirit. So he wanted me to start young. So it is because of my father that I kind of have a sensitive spot for animals. I plan to have pets when I get my own family and continue my family’s pet legacy. And I will try to do my part with helping out the stop of this big problem by educating all the youth around me about how we should cherish and value animals as if they were a part of the family. I also plan to take kids to the SPCA and different shelters so that they can develop a soft spot for animals which will most likely influence them to not perform negatively or harm animals and teach them to cherish other forms of life as if animals were human. Life is life no matter what style of life it is. So I feel they all should be treated with a similar balance of respect and freedom.
Depending on the state or place where the person lives they will think differently about different animal cruelty topics. People in this world sometimes share morals values and ethics but some of them differ and have opposing thoughts toward specific subjects. Like in my example about the animals getting abused for fur trade the Chinese people may not think of it as morally wrong but me as a animal nurturer and lover see it as wrong.  It almost seems like people in other countries accept animal cruelty more because it seems as if it is the only means of easy profit with no high level of education required.
In conclusion people around the world have to understand how animals should be treated in consideration to how humans feel they should be treated.

Animals Deserve Happiness! (Adrian Benitez)

Animals Deserve Happiness

When you look into the eyes of an animal, what do you see? Do you see love and happiness? If not, maybe you see pain, suffering, fear, sorrow, stress, and loneliness. Whatever you may see as you gaze into their eyes, the fact that he or she is a living thing and is able to communicate with you even it is not with words should be obvious. Why is it that even though animals are clearly thriving amongst us and are completely capable of transmitting emotions, people fail to acknowledge their rights and consider them to be much lesser beings? As long as society continues to fail to acknowledge the fact that animals should never be treated as an experiment, a quick way to make money, or an addition to their obsessive collection, the issues of animal abuse remains.
Animal testing is one of the worst forms of animal abuse there is. Animal testing (or experimentation) is defined as, “Use of animals in experiments and development projects usually to determine toxicity, dosing and efficacy of test drugs before proceeding to human clinical trials.” (biology-online.org). Furthermore, not only is it extremely cruel, it is also highly impractical. Animals do not share the same DNA structures as human beings, thus making experimentation on animals inconclusive. By purchasing various products such as dove, glade, pledge, and Windex (to name a few), we encourage the manufacturers to continue what they are doing (making the product and testing it on helpless, innocent animals) so the consumer buys their merchandise. By purchasing a common household item that we use to clean or freshen our homes with, we applaud these companies for their wrongdoings and giving them our seal of approval to go ahead and continue brutally torturing these poor animals in order to make the product “successful”. A recent study on the amount of animals being used “in the name of science” revealed an estimated 50-100 million animals are used annually for experiments. That is, 50-100 million innocent living organisms are being sacrificed in the name of “research”. Many of these animals are received from breeders, shelters, and newspaper advertisements. These innocent animals lives do not have to be taken, as there are many alternatives when it comes to animal testing. For example, using the extra skin from a recent human surgical procedure would be a wonderful alternative. Human skin (along with donated cadavers) would allow scientists to measure the rate at which a chemical is able to penetrate the skin. Thus, making the experiment much more practical and accurate. Another alternative would be the use of technology. Technology is used in numerous medical procedures/examinations when it came to discovering possible threats to the human body (such as cancerous cells), so why not use technological procedures to determine whether or not a product will cause harm to the consumer? Unfortunately, animal testing will continue to be apart of society unless people finally decide that they had enough and reject the products from companies that fail to acknowledge and practice alternatives.
Another form of animal abuse that needs to be addressed is the use of puppy mills. For those not completely aware of what exactly a “puppy mill” is, it is defined as “A commercial dog breeding facility that is operated with an emphasis upon profits above animal welfare and is often in substandard conditions regarding the well-being of dogs in their care.” (almosthomerescue.org). In other words, it is a place where hundreds of innocent dogs are imprisoned and forced to constantly breed. Owners of the facility acknowledge the fact that millions of people cannot resist the adorable look of puppies, so they consistently breed dogs in crammed, filthy, disease filled cages to produce of mass production of these cute fluffy attention grabbers. What many people fail to realize is that puppies that are found at many pet stores come from puppy mills, and that somewhere the mother (and father) of that puppy in the window is suffering from torture and neglect. The solution for this ongoing problem is to simply adopt. There are millions of sweet, loving, adorable animals in animal shelters waiting for a second chance and house to call home. If people are no longer willing to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a puppy, and search for a new family member at a local animal shelter instead, owners of puppy mills will soon realize that there is no longer high demand for their “product” and that they are spending more money than they are making. Thus, the cruel business would slowly begin to fade, many more animals would be saved and placed in good homes, and as an added bonus, animal shelters would not be as overpopulated.
A third branch of animal abuse worth identifying would be animal hoarding. Although there is no single definition for animal hoarding due to the fact a certain criteria must be used to be classified an “animal hoarder”, there are multiple ways to identify if one can actually be labeled as a hoarder of animals. Some of ways to determine whether or not one hoards animals are: “The accumulation of a large number of animals that has overwhelmed ones ability to provide minimal care for their well-being, failure to acknowledge the deteriorating condition of the animals, and failure to recognize the negative effect of the collection his or her own health and well-being and on that of other household members.” (animallaw.info). Most of the time the owners who hoard animals have good intentions when it comes to their animals well being, but often become overwhelmed by the amount of animals they take in. Thus, both the owners and animals have to suffer due to the fact that the environment quickly become hazardous and unfit for any living organism to live in. With that being said, the solution to this issue is obvious; don’t take in more than you can handle. Even though one may really have a passion for caring for multiple animals at a single giving time and is means well when it comes to the well-being of their animals, if the owners are unable to provide the appropriate care and hospitality for the animals, let alone themselves, it is not the appropriate time to be responsible for multiple lives who solely depend on them.
Furthermore, it is evident that animal abuse continues to linger throughout our society and in order to prevent it from occurring in the future; society needs to make a stand and be the voice for the animals that truly need our help. Animal abuse still exists throughout society and is still happening each and every day. Whether it is identified through animal testing, animal hoarding, or the usage of puppy mills, the mistreating of innocent animals must come to an end.  Although ending the abuse of animals is not a easy thing to do and will not happen over night, we need to utilize our ability to get the message out, and ultimately make the world a safer place for animals by exposing and eliminating the things that hurt them the most.

Any Animal Abuse Isn't Right! ( Sarah Ramos)

Whales and Dolphins are one of the many animals who are slaughter for their meat, or in whale case their oil, etc. This type of animal cruelty isn’t right you see tons of people crowding the shores just to see these poor animals get slaughtered, these people must not be in the right state of mind to be watching this and not doing anything about it, in my mind they are sick people. I don’t understand how these people don’t even think twice before killing these animals, they may earn money in the end but the outcome is you will always have this in the back of their mind, until they realize the damage they have done to harmless creatures, when I see the whales getting pulled in by the people then just stabbing them while they are still alive, or how people just walk by all the lifeless corpse of the whales, it’s shameful and need to be stopped immediately. Most of these people earn a living by killing these animals because they sell their meat and make a profit out of doing so, sometimes it even comes as traditions for people to kill dolphins and whales because it was passed down from their ancestors, but seeing these photos brings so man tears, wondering how much pain that animal has to go through before dying trying to flee away but knowing this is your last moments breaks my heart, the saddest part is people won’t stop, even if it’s illegal they will find ways to get their meat. This Abuse Needs to Stop, Think About This Would You Want to Be Tortured?

Animals need love (Aaron Weston)

Animals in this world have been mistreated and under appreciated for decades. Many animals in this video were bred out of wedlock, meaning that they were forced to breed for the profit of others using animals as a illegal lucrative job. As the video stated that, because of the mass capacity of the animals getting bred and rescued and that go to the shelters only 25% of the animals were adopted and the rest being 75% got euthanize or put down. Which is terrible because the animals don't have a say or control over anything. The video showed animals who were mal-nutritioned and under fed because of non-supportive and unreliable owners. Also they use the animals numbers to show how the world looks at animals in this world. Numbers meaning that they considerably carry no purpose and are just nothing but an additional thing in this world like a item that you could find at a store or something containing a bar-code. This topic means the world to me because I love animals. I've had all of the original different types of pets so i kind of have a soft spot for animals. I feel all the animals should be loved and feel as if they are here because they are wanted by someone who has space in there heart and life to accept them. Love is a necessity in this world. Its hard to live without it.
